Kids with Nick Willis

Nick Willis signing posters
It was great to see so many kids at Newtown Park to meet Nick and join in with the club day. The weather couldn’t have been better in the end (the seniors didn’t get that luxury in the afternoon as it turned to custard) so we were very lucky.
While our normal clubday format of running events in age bands proved not to have been the ideal way to run the events given the numbers that were there, feedback was positive. Please thank your members for attending and bearing with our flexible timing and order of events. There are also some great photo’s from the morning on Rowan Grieg’s website which your members might also be interested in:
Kind regards

There’s a fantastic opportunity this Saturday 25 October
for your kids to meet Nick Willis at Newtown Park.
The Olympic, Karori, Onslow and Wellington junior athletics clubs have been invited to a mini interclub.
Venue: Newtown Park Track, Wellington (next to Wellington Zoo)
Time: 11.30am to 1pm
Events: Track and field events will be run for all children aged 7 through to 14 years of age.
Nick Willis will be there, he will be signing autographs for the kids taking part.
We’d love to have as many Olympic club athletes there as possible. It’s a good chance to see what the interclubs are all about. So come along and wear your t-shirt or singlet with your age flash safety pinned to the front of your top.
Age Flashes and T-shirts
For anyone who registered by email or post you can pick up your age flashes and t-shirts on the first Monday club night on 3 November. If you need an age flash for this weekend email jo@kellysports.co.nz and she will bring these along with her.

Lots of Olympic athletes in here! Well done all of you! The 2008 Inter-Provincial Primary and Secondary Schools Cross-Country was held at Harcourt Park, Upper Hutt, on Thursday 25 September, in gorgeously sunny and calm conditions.
The event was contested by teams from Wellington, Canterbury, Tasman (Nelson & Marlborough), Wanganui, Horowhenua and Wairarapa/Bush.
Competition was for the “Phil Costley Shield” donated 4 years ago by one of New Zealand’s most prominent cross-country, distance and marathon champions.
The trophy was won by Wellington (off Canterbury) last year, and this year the two rival teams shared victory with each winning 4 teams races and coming second in the other 4. (Each Province is only allowed to score 1 team)
Tasman were 3rd and Wanganui 4th.
Next year’s event is to be held in Nelson.

Susannah Lynch lead a very successful National Cross Country Championship campaign by Olympic club members on Saturday.
Susannah prevailed in the muddy conditions to take her first national cross country championship title in the Girls 12 and under grade. Susannah covered the 2k course in 7.36 comfortably beating the second place getter Georgia Harris from Gisborne.
You should have heard the applause at the club when that news came through!! Congratulations, we are very proud of you!!
Mike Waterman also achieved a well deserved podium finish with a strong bronze medal performance in the Masters Men 35-39 age grade, capping off what has been a good cross country season for him. Awesome Mike! Well done!!
