Date Event
18 November 2008 Twilight 5k Series - Race 1, Queens Wharf, Wellington
The rain passed over leaving pretty good conditions tonight for the first of the Olympic Twilight 5k series. Sister event to the Scottish series with which we will for a few weeks share alternate weeks.

Great to have the support of Scottish at tonights event, thanks guys!

I've often thought that the southerly is harder than a northerly on this course and a few running tonight will probably agree however there were a few people talking PBs so well done to you if you are in this category.

Our Winner tonight was Brian Garmonsway in 16:26, that's a pretty sharp time. Axel Tie kept up his good form with a solid 17:00 for second. First woman was Victoria Sugden, oh so close to that magic 4min k pace in 20:01 (who's counting .01 of a second!) well done Victoria.

The walkers were lead home by Michael Walton also a sharp time of 27:22 first woman walker was Terri Grimmett. The wind can't have been too bad then!

See you all again in a fortnight.

4 October 2008 End of Season Turkey Trot, Clubrooms, Bannister Ave., Johnsonville
Here are the results of the fun Turkey Trot organised by Rob McCrudden for your entertainment and enjoyment on the last pack run of the season.

Some interesting estimates here and some very close predictions also. Good fun eh! takes some practice to predict these times well so hopefully Rob will do some more of these (the walkers do them often!)
27 September 2008 Perston Baton Relays, Karori Park, Karori
Perfect weather despite the forecast saw 8 teams of 5 (and 1 of 6) contest this last of the season's cross country races for the club.

The results attest to some close racing from pretty even teams in the most part.

Thanks to all those who assisted on the day with set up of the course (it was very well marked); time keeping and marshalling keeping us all on course. Well done also to Jacob Brown, who did the flying first lap on his own and got us all started, good job young man!

tip: If you use the dynamic page link (above) you can sort the results in different ways to see how you faired against others doing the same number of laps...etc.
21 September 2008 Hutt Half Marathon, Petone Foreshore
Great day for running races this Sunday, a little windy but the new course seemed pretty sheltered in the most part. The Hutt River of course was typically windy for the half marathoners on the trip out to Melling. But the foreshore was better than Port Rd. used to be in that respect.

There was some confusion on the 10k course which lead to me being dropped from 4th to 17th without anyone ever passing me (don't know where they went but there were some pretty good PBs in that bunch ahead of me). It all helps with the fun of what is and has always been a fun run!

Most of the Olympic runners would, of course, have known where they were going, having studied the course maps readily available at race HQ.

13 September 2008 Philp Shield, Clubrooms, Bannister Ave., Johnsonville
Great day and another great running of this sort after trophy teams event.

Nine teams and some 56 people took part.

The result announced at the clubrooms was not quite correct as the finish recorders mixed up the Bunkenberg twins and they both ended up in the same team when the results were calculated. They were the ones who turned out to control the result so the corrected result follows.

Congratulations to Lachlan Rusbridge's team who end up as the winners with Mike Waterman's team second. Third equal where Sean and Chris' teams with Sean's team taking the third place on a count back having the best last finisher (well done Greg!).
13 September 2008 Martin to Wanganui Relay, Martin (off-site)

21 walking teams participated in the Marton to Wanganui relay race – 66.37k of gravel and asphalt back roads. Just enough light rain fell throughout the day to keep the walkers cool.

The Olympic team comprising Carol Brieseman, Andrea Adams, Viv Bott, Cyndy Horne and Liz Holt powered their way through the two laps each.

Team manager Colleen Singleton is grateful to Olympic for the support given the team, which flew the Olympic flag proudly at every opportunity.

23 August 2008 Butterfly Creek Night Time Madness, Eastbourne (off-site)

Five Olympic Harrier runners raced the Butterfly Creak Nighttime Madness event in Eastborne. Conditions were ideal this year with the weather staying warm and dry although there were a few muddy sections through the bush. The course was very challenging with 295m of uphill climbing, fast descents and a bit of road running to finish.

Martin & Sean McCrudden were 1st home in the Youth Challenge

Michelle Van Looy & Jo Doherty were 1st women pair in the Classic Challenge

Anna Murdoch also completed the youth challenge with Charlotte Pleasant.

23 August 2008 Athletics Wellington Road Championships, International Campus, Trentham
About 50 club members competed in this event which doubles as our club road champs. The club ended up with several second placings including the open men's team and the masters women's team.

Sean McCrudden was also selected to run for Wellington at the national road champs.

There were some PBs in evidence also well done!

All in all another successful outing for the club.

Great turn out from the club with 12 teams turning out to do battle on this blustery winters afternoon. The strong southerly and wind chill were the defining weather conditions. Good team spirit prevailed and we ended up with three 2nd places (JWA, MWA & MMA).

Great effort everyone.

Susannah prevailed in the muddy conditions to take her first national cross country championship title in the Girls 12 and under grade. Susannah covered the 2k course in 7.36 comfortably beating the second place getter Georgia Harris from Gisborne.

You should have heard the applause at the club when that news came through!! Congratulations, we are very proud of you!!

Mike Waterman also achieved a well deserved podium finish with a strong bronze medal performance in the Masters Men 35-39 age grade, capping off what has been a good cross country season for him. Awesome Mike! Well done!!

13 July 2008 Wainuiomata Mountain Race, Wainuiomata (off-site)
Incorporating the Wellington Mountain Running Champs

On a beautifully calm and sunny morning on Sunday 13th July a few of us took on the Wainui Mountain Run/Wellington Mountain Running Champs. The distances were 11.9 km for the men and 9.5km for the women.

Michelle and Matt won Silver
Erina won Gold
Start of the race saw us immediately grinding our way up a steep incline until we reached the water tower. From there the terrain became more undulating with steep climbs interspersed with some short sharp downhills. In a number of areas you either go 'up and over' or 'around'. Up and over might have looked shorter but going around was faster. Even with recent rain the ground underfoot was pretty dry making for some good running. Once we reached the drink stop at about 3.5kms we turned right and had a nice easy downhill. Shortly after the women turned left up a very steep climb while the men carried on to complete a loop before joining back to the main course. This was the toughest climb of the course but the views over the harbour from the top were stunning. From here it was almost all downhill on the firebreaks before making a sharp left hand turn onto a very nice stretch of winding single track through the bush. Popping out at the bottom of the hill road in Wainui we continued down on the grassy verge before turning left along the road and into the finish shute.

Back to Wainui High School for the prizegiving where everyone got a spot prize and Michelle and Matt were lucky enough to win other prizes too.

Next came the announcements of who had won medals for champs and all three of us Olympic runners won a medal! Michelle and Matt both won Silver and I won Gold.

3 May 2008 Shaw Baton, Battle Hill Farm, Forest Park, Pauatahanui
Great running conditions this year greeted 493 competators as they once again took on the Shaw Baton Relays course. The athletes revelled in the slightly muddy cool conditions with feedback from at least one junior runner "this is the best cross country course I've done..."

The Wellington Scottish Senior men took out the baton once again to extend their continuous record to 13 years I believe.

Thanks to all competators for supporting this great event in such good spirit!!!

Brilliant day for the first race of the season. Perfect conditions hard and fast track and some good times.

There were a lot of people beating their handicaps this year. Some secret training has been going on, EXCELLENT!

91 participants recorded finishing times, that is fantastic. Starting as we mean to go on, it will be good to see that many at all the events over the season so good luck to everyone!
