These sessions are ideally suited to:
Please note that this is an additional programme that is not covered by your annual harriers subscription fee; an additional subscription is required.
Athletics Wellington holds open events most Saturday afternoons over the summer at Newtown Park. All events are graded. In the early part of the season you will race against your own age, then you’ll start to race against athletes seeded at the same level as you regardless of age. All races will be electronically timed. There are also throwing and jumping events for those who want to compete in these. To help with seeding, the first time you turn up you will need to advise your name, age and club and what events you want to compete in that day. From then on you will only need to register the events you are competing in as you will be already be in their system.
The season starts in early October with a programme of `under’ distances (60m, 150m, 600m etc) followed the introductory College Athletics Meets/open meets.
At the end of October and early in November, athletes will be encouraged to go to an interclub `regional teams’ (league) events, held in Hastings, Palmerston North and Newtown Park. At these events every athlete scores points towards a club trophy.
Other events over summer include the Capital Classic, the Scottish Night of Miles, and the Wellington Centre Champs.
The registration fee you pay to Olympic Harriers covers the cost of you taking part in these events, as long as you wear the Olympic uniform while taking part.
