Event details
Headquarters

The event is based at the Indoor Bowls Club at the south end (harbour side) of Onepoto Park, Onepoto Rd, Porirua. NEW FOR 2011: The start lines and finish lines for all races are within the park, adjacent to the Indoor Bowls club and about 100m from the entrance.
Course description
Come and explore one of Porirua’s wonderful outdoor recreation areas. Whitireia Park is on the peninsula overlooking the entrance to Porirua Harbour allowing you to explore the harbour’s edge with ever-changing scenes as you round each corner. We have two exciting and scenic courses and a kids cross country run to challenge the whole family:
- 11km cross country run: Starting in Onepoto Park, the course heads north around the flat coastal track from Te Onepoto Bay to Onehunga Bay (Shelly Bay). From here a quick explore around the rocks at the point before heading up the steep hill to the trig for views across to Mana Island. Then it’s downhill crossing the road and following the undulations past the transmitter masts before testing out the newly upgraded downhill track back down to Onepoto Bay. From here it’s back around the harbour and into Onepoto park to the finish line.
- 8km cross country run or walk: The start is the same as for the 11km run, starting in Onepoto Park and taking in the flat coastal track to Onehunga Bay. From here the course heads inland and gently climbs to get views across the rolling hills and transmitter masts. Then the fun can begin on the newly upgraded downhill track back down to Onepoto Bay and back around the harbour to the finish at Onepoto park.
- 1km kids cross country run (for 8 years old and under): The 1km kids’ event starts on Onepoto Park, heads up the forest track adjacent to the park, returns to the park and then back to the start/finish line via the grass.
- 2km kids cross country run (for 10 and under and 12 and under): The 2km kids’ course is two laps of the 1km course.
Unfortunately neither the 11km course or the 8km course are suitable for buggies: both courses have barriers across the track, and the 11km course has a challenging climb where it leaves the coast.
