National Road Relay Championships, Christchurch (Takahe to Akaroa)
Saturday, 6 October 2001
Official times of Olympic’s two teams at the national road relay in Christchurch.
The senior team was tenth in A grade (11th overall), with Mike Wakelin putting in an awesome effort to reduce the time deficit to the team in front to just 15 seconds — especially awesome considering he had just got off a 24-hour plane trip from Europe the day before, and was running at 2 a.m. body time!
Officially, the veterans team was 14th, but I have it on pretty good authority that they were the clear winners by the end of the ninth lap.
